Great Dorset Steam Fair 2001

1915 Marshall 7 n.h.p. Road Locomotive - Ben Lomond
Works No. 68632 - Reg. No. KE 2361
This 11 ton fully sprung compound engine, is fitted with three speeds and a belly tank. It is believed that the engine was originally built as works number 63257. It was sold new, through well-known Marshall agents 'George Thurlow' of Stowmarket to threshing contractor John Young of Chelsfield, who gave it the name it still carries today. During its preservation years "Ben Lomond" required a considerable amount of work, including a new boiler barrel, firebox and smokebox. The motion was rebuilt, as well as many other items which needed attention. Rubber tyres were fitted to improve the engine's ride on the road, and a new wooden roof to Marshall specification was made and fitted. The engine has carried its current blue livery for many years, although originally it was supplied in the traditional Marshall colours of maroon with red wheels.
