Bedfordshire Steam and Country Fayre 1999

1870 Howard Ploughing Engine - 8nhp
Works No. 110 - Reg. No. AP 9197
Built in Bedford. This was a duel purpose engine designed for the single engine system of roundabout ploughing and steam cultivation using a self moving and rope porters. Its early history isn't clear, but it is known that Henry Ford bought it in 1929 for his museum in Dearborn, USA. He paid £160 for both engine and tackle but left them outside and didn't steam it. The present owner repatriated the engine in 1991. A new boiler and firebox, to original design, has now been fitted.
